Redox media (KDF 55 and KDF 85) is an innovative and highly effective non-chemical solution for water treatment that can eliminate up to 98% of water-soluble cations, including lead, mercury, copper, nickel, and chromium. The process of filtering water through KDF® media results in the transformation of soluble lead cations into insoluble lead atoms, which are then electroplated onto the surface of the media. This process is also effective in removing other heavy metals from the water supply, and these metals can be recovered when the exhausted media pass through a copper smelter.

KDF 55 redox media is ideal for use in point-of-entry treatment systems (POET) to remove mercury from residential and industrial applications, and it has been proven to reduce mercury concentrations to below 0.5 ppb from initial concentrations of 13 ppb through 24 ppb. KDF media is also an excellent solution for removing up to 94.4% of lead from the effluent water used to rinse off printed circuit boards. This process saves companies thousands of dollars annually, as the treated water can be recycled in a closed-loop rinse-down system.

In addition to its effectiveness in removing heavy metals and scale, the oxidation-reduction process media is also highly effective in controlling microorganism growth. By shifting the oxidation/reduction potential (ORP) by a factor of -300mV or more, this advanced water treatment technology disrupts electron transport and causes cellular damage that reduces bacteria and other microorganisms. KDF process media also kill bacteria through direct electrochemical contact and the flash formation of hydroxyl radicals and hydrogen peroxide, both of which interfere with the microorganism’s ability to function.

KDF 55 Media is designed specifically to remove or reduce chlorine and water-soluble heavy metals. It also controls scale, bacteria, and algae, even in hot water. This media has received certification from NSF International and is compliant with California’s Health and Safety Code Section 166875 (also known as AB1953) and Vermont Act 193.

KDF 85 Media is highly effective in removing or reducing iron and hydrogen sulfide from municipal or other water supplies. It also controls scale, bacteria, and algae.

KDF-F (Fines) is specially designed to remove chlorine and control bacteria when incorporated into carbon blocks and other matrix-type filters. KDF-C (Coarse Mesh) Granules are used for removing or reducing soluble heavy metals and chlorine when less pressure drop is required.

Overall, KDF Media can remove up to 99% of water-soluble lead, mercury, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals. All forms of KDF Process Media are highly effective in controlling the buildup of bacteria, algae, fungi, and scale. This makes them ideal for use in GAC beds, ion exchange resins, carbon block filters, and inline carbon filters. By utilizing KDF Media, costly and potentially harmful chemical treatments can be eliminated, making it a safer and more effective solution for water treatment.
